The Kentucky Downs Casino facility in Franklin, Kentucky, was looking to expand. The facility was experiencing accelerated growth and the current infrastructure was outdated. A southern expansion was planned and several improvements were necessary including an entire re-planning and design of the parking lots, lighting, drainage, and selected utility items.

AEI provided solutions to allow for the southern expansion using a built-up engineered fill section designed to maintain useable pavement grades in the remaining/adjacent pavement areas. A pre- versus post-drainage analysis was completed to design a small detention basin to accommodate the additional stormwater flow due to additional area. AEI also provided a redesign of the entire existing parking field and also provided a design for an existing green space to add additional parking if necessary. The AEI plan added approximately 350 additional spaces to the facility.
