AEI provided civil site design, utility design and coordination, environmental investigation, geotechnical investigation, ALTA surveying and permitting for the Meijer Retail Center (Store #272) in Bowling Green, Kentucky opened on June 5th, 2014. This 195,285 s.f. facility was developed on 20.3 acres off Westpark Drive. Some of the more challenging design on the project involved stormwater quality and quantity requirements driven by local requirements per MS4 mandates, particularly consider the Bowling Green area is dominated by “karst” terrain giving rise to sinkholes and cave systems that receive stormwater more directly than non karst areas. AEI designed two “dry pond” detention facilities with dry well subsurface outlets per local standards. All stormwater was required to be discharged to those facilities. In addition, stormwater was required to treated to a certain level prior to discharge, prompting the design of two stormwater treatment units at the end of two primary storm systems. These mechanical units (Vortechs® Models 11000 and 16000) use a large aluminum swirl chamber, baffles and bypass features to treat as much as 24 cfs of flow.
